The
Caledonian Banquet
The 350th
Anniversary of the Battle of Worcester
1651-2001
The
Caledonian Banquet was held in Worcester Guildhall at the invitation
of the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor David Clark. To reflect the
part played by so many Scots in the Battle, this was a homage to
them with Bagpipes to accompany the addressing of the Haggis, Roast
Sirloin of Beef and Crannachan, a delicious pudding of oatmeal,
cream, honey and raspberries.
The Chief Guest
was Tam Dalyell Member of Parliament and Father of the House of
Commons, who related to the diners that his ancestor and namesake
had been captured at the Battle and after escaping from the Tower
of London, he went on to command the Tsar of Russia's army at the
Battle of Smolensk.
